Under-Desk Elliptical Workstation Fit Worksheet

Before placing a bulk order for under-desk ellipticals, test a sample at the desk and chair combinations you intend to equip. Measure from the floor to the lowest obstruction above the pedal area, then observe knee and toe clearance through a full pedal cycle in the participant’s usual working position. Approve only the setups you tested and record any adjustment needed to make them work.

Choose the workstations to test

Group workstations by desk underside, chair type, and floor surface. Include the lowest usable desk settings and any setup with a drawer, crossbar, or cable tray near the user’s legs. In shared workspaces, test more than one intended chair and seating position. Use a workplace identifier in the worksheet and keep participant details out of any supplier copy.

Record one row per sample and workstation setup in your pilot log. Repeat the check when the chair setting, desk position, or sample placement changes. Use one unit of measurement throughout.

Observe the full pedal path at the intended chair position

1. With the unit stationary, check that its footprint, the chair base, and any power cord can fit without blocking the user’s normal way in and out. Resolve visible obstructions before operating the sample.
2. Follow the sample instructions. Have the participant sit in their usual working position and start at the lowest permitted setting where the model offers a choice. Observe the knees and toes throughout a full cycle, including as the pedal moves forward and back. Stop if there is contact or if the chair or unit shifts.
3. Mark the sample and chair positions. Check that the user can still sit at the desk and move the chair in and out as they normally would. If a change is needed, record the new position and repeat the check.

Decide where to deploy the sample

• Pass. The sample clears the workstation through the observed cycle, stays in place, and allows normal desk and chair use in the recorded setup. Apply the buyer’s minimum clearance criterion if one was set for the pilot.
• Retest. Placement or a permitted furniture adjustment might resolve the issue. Record the adjustment and keep the setup pending until the new trial passes.
• Exclude. Contact, movement, or blocked access persists within the allowed setup. Leave that workstation out of the rollout for the tested model.
